Brezovicë

The Brezovica ski resort was founded in 1954. The resort has 16 kilometers of ski trails located on the northern and northeastern slopes of the Shar mountains. The Brezovica Ski Center has hosted numerous international ski events in the 1980s and 1990s, but has since been developed for tourism.

The legal status of the Brezovica ski resort has been disputed since the 1999 Kosovo war, as both the Serbian and Kosovo governments claim to have property rights over it.

Brezovica or Ski Center Brezovica is the most famous tourist center in Kosovo. It is located on the northwest side of the Shar mountain, in the municipality of Shtërpcë (Štrpce). The altitude of the Ski Center Brezovica is from 900 to 2500 meters. A unique sports and recreational complex.

It is about 60 km from Pristina. With its distinctly alpine nature and high mountain ambience, the immediate surroundings of Brezovica are reminiscent of the most famous European tourist centers. Forests, lush meadows and pastures are full of mountain flowers, medicinal herbs, and all kinds of wildlife. A large number of springs and streams with cold and clear water are a special color of this area.

The highest parts of Brezovica have a real alpine climate, which is why the snow lasts up to 280 days. While the lower parts are characterized by a dental climate, with pleasant daytime heat and cool nights. It is also very likely to experience all four annual homes in the same day, and during July and August, the highest parts of the Shar mountain are covered with snow. Due to the favorable climatic conditions that represent an ideal environment for winter, sports and recreational tourism, so that there are visitors throughout the year. This tourist center Brezovica is open all year round for organizing seminars, symposia, congresses and scientific gatherings. In summer, tourists in Brezovica organize hiking, recreation, excursions, hunting and fishing and visit cultural and historical monuments.

Ski center Brezovica is equipped with 9 cable cars. The cable cars follow 9 trails, of different categories for all types of skiers. The longest trail is 3500 meters. The capacity of the ski resort is 10 thousand skiers per hour.

The ski center has about 700 beds in four hotels, while additional accommodation options exist in independent hotels and private facilities. However, these hotels either operate minimally or are closed due to legal disputes between the Government of Serbia and the Government of Kosovo. Hotel clients have free transportation and free access to the ski lifts. The construction of private houses in this area is flourishing even though it is a natural park.
